Johnson called Anderson 'the daddy of intelligent water programs in America.' Anderson sponsored the final Wilderness Bill and it was signed into law by President Lyndon B. Johnson on September 3, 1964. Richard McArdle, chief of the Forest Service from 1952-1962 stated "Without Clinton Anderson there would have been no Wilderness Law."
