Book
Hardcover. Condition: Good. Hi. Welcome to our small, family-owned bookstore. Copyrighted 1914 by The Book Committee (this is likely a First Edition, but unstated). Written by Lucy Wilder Morris. Subtitled: The A. B. C's of Minnesota History--Authentic Incidents Gleaned from The Old Settlers by The Book Committee. Hardcover (gray with red lettering outlined in black). No dust jacket. Good-for-its-age condition, meaning the cover has some light spots, and worn spots on the edges, the hinges front and back have loosened enough to show the threads of the binding, but they have not broken; one single leaf [pp.15/16] has come loose; the front end-paper has some discolor (and a penciled number, probably a price-notation), and the edges of the pages show some light age-tanning. Not so bad for 115 years. I hope I am no worse off at that age. 324 pages. Except as noted, a secure sewn binding. Packaged using bubble wrap and a sturdy cardboard box. Tracking number provided for no extra cost. Thanks for checking out this book from our small town brick-and-mortar and supporting a small business.
Soft cover. Condition: Very Good. large paperback in very good+ condition.
Condition: Good. Good condition. (London, History, Bridges) A copy that has been read but remains intact. May contain markings such as bookplates, stamps, limited notes and highlighting, or a few light stains. Bundled media such as CDs, DVDs, floppy disks or access codes may not be included.
Paperback (Saddle Stitched). Condition: Very Good. Unmarked. Beautifully illustrated. Tells the story of London Bridge, a bridge in Lake Havasu City, Arizona. It was built in the 1830s and formerly spanned the River Thames in London, England. It was dismantled in 1967 and relocated to Arizona. The Arizona bridge is a reinforced concrete structure clad in the original masonry of the 1830s bridge, which was purchased by Robert P. McCulloch from the City of London. The bridge was completed in 1971 (along with a canal), and links an island in the Colorado River with the main part of Lake Havasu City. 24p. Oblong. Measures 12x8.25 inches.

paperback. Condition: New. Illustrated. "Product DescriptionAN INSTANT NEW YORK TIMES BESTSELLER!!Named a Best Book of 2019 by TIME, Amazon, and The Washington PostA Wired Must-Read Book of Summer"Gretchen McCulloch is the internet's favorite linguist, and this book is essential reading. Reading her work is like suddenly being able to see the matrix." -Jonny Sun, author of everyone's a aliebn when ur a aliebn tooBecause Internet is for anyone who's ever puzzled over how to punctuate a text message or wondered where memes come from. It's the perfect book for understanding how the internet is changing the English language, why that's a good thing, and what our online interactions reveal about who we are.Language is humanity's most spectacular open-source project, and the internet is making our language change faster and in more interesting ways than ever before. Internet conversations are structured by the shape of our apps and platforms, from the grammar of status updates to the protocols of comments and @replies. Linguistically inventive online communities spread new slang and jargon with dizzying speed. What's more, social media is a vast laboratory of unedited, unfiltered words where we can watch language evolve in real time.Even the most absurd-looking slang has genuine patterns behind it. Internet linguist Gretchen McCulloch explores the deep forces that shape human language and influence the way we communicate with one another. She explains how your first social internet experience influences whether you prefer "LOL" or "lol," why ~sparkly tildes~ succeeded where centuries of proposals for irony punctuation had failed, what emoji have in common with physical gestures, and how the artfully disarrayed language of animal memes like lolcats and doggo made them more likely to spread.Review"McCulloch is such a disarming writer-lucid, friendly, unequivocally excited about her subject-that I began to marvel at the flexibility of the online language she describes, with its numerous shades of subtlety." -The New York Times"McCulloch's book is a good start in guiding readers to consider the wild language of the internet as a thing of wonder-a valuable feature, not a bug." -The Wall Street Journal"[An] effervescent study of how the digital world is transfiguring English. . . . [McCulloch's] almost political thesis-the more voices, the better-rebukes both the élitism of traditional grammar snobs and the cliquishness of, say, Tumblr. It's a vision of language as one way to make room for one another." -The New Yorker"Rather than obsessing about what the internet is doing to language, [Because Internet] largely focuses on what can be learned about language from the internet. . . . McCulloch's book is about the birth of a new medium." -The Economist"A well-researched retort to grumpy grammarians who think technology is turning kids into lazy, inarticulate drivelers." -Time"Lively and wide-ranging" -NPR"A compelling narrative rich with examples from her own online activities, a healthy dose of humor, and plenty of cat memes the breadth of topics covered-from conversation analysis to meme culture to the development of texting as we now know it-makes this book useful, engaging, and enjoyable." -Science"Gretchen McCulloch is the internet's favorite linguist, and this book is essential reading. Reading her work is like suddenly being able to see the matrix. She explains the hows and the whys of the ways we talk online with the deepest empathy, understanding, and compassion." -Jonny Sun, author of everyone's a aliebn when ur a aliebn too"Sometimes it seems like the internet is a seething brew of ugliness and misery. So it's nice to remember that, as well as the lawless drudgery, there are complex human systems that, intentional or not, create something totally new. Internet linguist (damn!) Gretchen McCulloch explores the ever-changing language of online." -Elle, "30 Best Books to Read this Summer""McCulloch lays out the ways in which online lingo,".
