London-born John Charles Goodchild (1898-1980) emigrated with his family to South Australia in 1913; he served on the Western Front with the 9th Field Ambulance, AIF. He established himself as an artist, educator and arts administrator in Adelaide after the war. He studied in London in both the early and late 1920s; this image would appear to date from the second visit. Consult the 'Australian Dictionary of Biography' for more on this interesting artist. The artist has signed and inscribed and numbered (2/6) to the lower edge. The low run number is typical for a reduction print as the plate is incrementally destroyed as the coloured layers are printed.The print has several labels at the back of the frame with framing information, gallery information and artist's information.
