Seller: Cameron House Books, Freshwater Bay, Isle of Wight, United Kingdom
Book First Edition
Hardcover. Condition: Near fine copy. Illustrated by the author (illustrator). First Edition. 174 x 113mm, pale yellow pictorial cloth lettered in red on spine, lettered & blocked in red with drawing of the uncle by Peake on upper cover, pp.[ii] [130]. Illustrated throughout with line drawings in soft pencil interspersed with typewritten text and passages in the author's hand. Ownership signature of Steve Race, musician and broadcaster. Unclipped colour facsimile dustwrapper. The author was dissatisfied with the quality of reproduction; his marvellous drawings are afflicted with a quite inappropriate fogginess, while many of the typewritten areas are too dark. The book was withdrawn from sale at his request shortly after publication. Peake made a new set of drawings for a television adaptation in 1955. I specialise in Mervyn Peake. Enquiries welcome.
