Mrs. Boyd, accompanied her husband Captain Orsemus Bronson Boyd after his graduation from West Point, where he had been accused by some of his fellow cadets of having stolen money. He was ostracized by his fellow cadets until graduation and for several years afterwards. He was found not-guilty of the charge and went on for a good career in the Army. Mrs. Boyd accompanied her husband across the Sierra Nevada and Mojave Desert. Included in the book is an Appendix title. "American Civilization, as viewed by Weeping Weasel, late chief of the Kiowas.
