The development of motor cycles, their use and technological advances, from the first primative machines of 1896 to the latest models of 1950 are covered in this history, which in turn examines their employment for transport, sport and recreaction and in two world wars. The "Cavalcade" was first published in 1950 of with this secord revised impression in 1951, which included some corrections and additions. The author/editor, Ixion, was a member of the staff of "The Motor Cycle," Britain's oldest magazine devoted to these machines and dating back to 1903. At the time of writing he was he only professional writer among the survivors of the magazine's earliest days. His book is a collage of the magazine's archives, his own and other's experiences and recollections of motot cycles, events, riding and observing. A fine record of the early days for the contemporary two-wheel enthusiast. Second revised edition of 1951, 239 pages including index, chronology of important dates in motor cycling (1885-1949) at front, 32 pages of photogravure illustratons in four sections, up to four images on many pages. Brown hard covers are VG+ with lightly sunned gilt spine titles, ink gift inscription top FFEP, isolated foxing marks few preliminary pages, text block otherwise excellent.

A fine author, the bible of the Ride. For almost six decades, an Anglican priest provided inspiration and advice to generations of British and colonial motorcyclists. In his weekly articles, Ixion's "Occasional Comments," appearing in The Motor Cycle (one of the foremost motorcycling periodicals), he provided an insight into the movement; his rather secretive persona belying an in-depth knowledge gained by dealings at grass-roots levels with those involved in the industry and through being involved in the sport since it began in the previous century. 'Ixion' was the pen name of one of the foremost motorcycling journalists of the period. He recalls his adventures and those of his many friends in the movement in the pioneer days of motor cycling when every journey was an adventure and every destination, merely a possibility. Approx 260 pages with a number of cartoons and period motor cycle advertising. The adventures cover 30 years and 300,000 miles and are a delightful 2 & sometimes 3 wheeled ride along memory lane. The book is in good clean condition the jacket a tad faded and with some edge and corner wear.
