About the Author:
Fernando de Zárate (seudónimo de Antonio Enríquez Gómez, 1600-1663). España. Hijo de Diego Enríquez Villanueva, un judío portugués, Zárate huyó de España a Francia en 1636 perseguido por su fe religiosa y fue secretario de Luis XIII. Allí publicó varias obras antes de volver en secreto a España hacia 1649. Fue quemado en efigie en 1660 por la Inquisición sevillana y asistió a la ceremonia oculto tras un disfraz. Poco después fue descubierto y arrestado por la Inquisición y murió en la cárcel.
