Harry A. Gailey, Ph.D., is Professor Emeritus, San Jose State University where he was chairman of the African Studies Program from 1965 -1998. He was a recipient of Ford Foundation and Social Science Research grants for Africa and has done research in Senegambia, Sierra Leone, and Nigeria. In addition he was a lecturer for the United States Information Agency in Africa. He is the author of History of Africa, Volumes I, II, and III; History of Africa in Maps; A History of the Gambia; The Road to Aba; Lugard and the Abeokuta Uprising; Sir Donald Cameron; Clifford, Imperial Procounsul; Historical Dictionary of the Gambia; and many articles dealing with Africa.
