About the Author:
Award-winning author Marty Crisp writes books for children and adults. She's also an animal lover and has worked for a veterinary clinic and an animal shelter. In addition to writing books, she is also a journalist and has interviewed Newbery winner Phyllis Reynolds Naylor, literary legend John Updike, and has even covered concerts by performers such as Britney Spears and N'Sync.

Grade 2-5-Crisp, an avowed animal lover and writer of dog stories, has collected questions from kids over the years. Here, she offers answers to some of their more intriguing inquiries. There is no formal arrangement, which in no way detracts from the book's usefulness. The opening query, "Do dogs come from dinosaurs?" seems silly at first. But the answer completely and clearly delves into doggie ancestry. Canine sense of smell is fully explained, and readers learn that some dogs can even sniff out cancer in humans. In all, over 30 dog-related questions are answered. The readable text is set on a generous white background. Questions are posed in larger print and light green fact circles expand on various points. The abundant full-color photographs are appealing. A "Dog Superlatives" page lists the fastest (greyhound), the quietest (basenji), and even the dumbest (Afghan hound), etc. Everything Dog offers plenty of canine facts in a browsable format. A first purchase.
