Nancy is a native of Lewiston, Maine and is best known for her pie-saving invention, the "Pie Saver." She traded in her inventor's hat to pen this series. Nancy has always had an interest in nutrition, so finding a way to incorporate that into her books led her to create the series called "Chompy & The Munchy Bunch." The series focuses on Chompy, a nervous carrot who finds a formula for super-powered eyesight called Chompy Juice, which is made from carrots. Children love re-enacting the eye-popping Chompy Juice segment, and parents appreciate the underlying nutritional messages hidden inside. The books are geared toward 4 - 9 year olds. Nancy lives in Maine and Florida with her husband of 41 years. They have two children and three grandchildren. Besides cooking, Nancy loves nature (anything outdoors!), reading and most of all spending time with her grandchildren.

Hebumps into the teacher's desk and falls over, and people laugh at him. A fewpeople play a prank on him, and they laugh at him. Spud runs away and into theforest. In the forest, he sees the house of the gourds, but he accidentallyfalls into the window and gets stuck. Meanwhile, his classmates are trying tofind him. Will he ever get out of the window?

I really enjoyed reading Spud's First Day Surprise (Chompy and the Munchy Bunchvolume three) by Nancy Beaule. The book is very well written and descriptive.The story has many funny parts. The characters are likeable, because the gourdshelp to cheer Spud up, and Spud kept the rain away from the gourds. The bookteaches that sometimes people are teased because they're different, but itdoesn't mean they should be bullied. It also teaches that often bullying isbased on appearance. The book is very relatable, because many young readershave had to go to a new school, just like Spud. The illustrations by LaurenGoldstein are very well done, and depict each scene vividly. The pictures are alsovery colorful. Children will enjoy reading this book. I would definitelyrecommend this book to all young readers.
