About the Author:
Olivia Mellan has been a groundbreaker in the field of money conflict resolution since 1982. Author of four critically acclaimed books, Money Harmony, Overcoming Overspending, Money Shy to Money Sure, and Advisor's Guide to Money Psychology (the last two with Sherry Christie), Mellan writes a monthly column, "The Psychology of Advice", in Investment Advisor magazine. She has appeared frequently on the TODAY Show, Oprah, and ABC's 20-20. She conducts teleclasses, seminars, trainings, and intergenerational family retreats, and gives keynotes and other speeches all over the country about various aspects of money and relationships. Sherry Christie has been helping people make better money decisions for years. A former advertising executive, she now works with leading financial institutions as a freelance writer. She is the co-author of Making Your Company Human: Inspiring Others to Reach Their Potential, as well as three books with Olivia Mellan.

Mellan, a psychotherapist in the field of money conflict resolution and herself a recovering compulsive spender, presents not a personal finance book on budgeting, saving, and investing but a psychological self-help book for couple relationships in which one or both partners suffers from an addiction to spending. Mellan uses case studies, including her personal experience, to show what causes overspending and how couples can work to overcome it. Most of the cases involve couples in which one partner is a hoarder or a saver while the other is an overspender. Mellan encourages couples to talk about their spending and what emotions they feel when money is spent. She then wants couples to discuss ways they can fulfill these emotions without spending money. This is an excellent book that should be read by all couples whether they think they have a problem with overspending or not. Highly recommended.
