When Glenda meets friend Susan at a historic Chicago jazz club, Susan, a heavy drinker and desultory conversationalist, is poisoned while Glenda weirds out on some kind of "metaphysical" hallucination. Several weeks later, Glenda, still disturbed, discovers a woman's body at the home of Susan's ex-lover?the previously featured jazz musician. After fortuitously spotting murder suspects in an old photograph and learning of the jazz club's violent past, Glenda determines to separate fact from ghostly imagination. Agitated, disjointed prose, an inchoate plot, and a few too many coincidences will probably deter readers; a marginal purchase.
