Grade 4-6-- Using excellent, clear, full-color photographs, diagrams, and maps, these books present concise and understandable discussions of the formation, power, and destructive capabilities of tornadoes and tsunamis. Kramer gives safety rules for tornado areas, and even mentions their possible positive benefits to world weather patterns. His approach is less frightening than Souza's, which tends to be overly alarmist, warning readers of potential tsunami threats at every beachfront. However, she does clearly illustrate the power of wave action. Both titles include many unusual facts, anecdotes, and personal accounts involving these freakish phenomena, concentrating perhaps too heavily on destruction but including scientific advances in current warning systems.
