From AudioFile:
Set during the French Revolution in the shadow of the guillotine, this novel focuses on the relationships among the rather strait-laced Marie Fontaine and her more frivolous colleagues after the deposing of the monarchy. Eve Karpf has a beautiful voice which enhances this depiction of post-revolution Parisian society. Her young Marie Fontaine is very fetching. For the rather profligate Josephine (later to become Empress) she adopts an appropriately giddy and vapid voice. Lesser female characters, as well as the male characters, are equally well-portrayed. These many voices combine to present an entertaining performance. J.D.N. (c)AudioFile, Portland, Maine
