From School Library Journal:
Grade 3 Up-- These two oversized books are a browser's paradise. Their large full-color illustrations will create vivid impressions about each creature's size, appearance, and habitat. The text and captions, while insufficient for in-depth research, provide plenty of interesting facts to tantalize readers' imaginations. Dinosaurs covers most current theories and focuses on special features such as frills, horns, claws, and teeth. Sharks covers an array of ocean dwellers that fascinate children. Eels, manta rays, giant clams, and squid are all included, plus some monstrous deep sea fish that look as if they originated in a medieval bestiary. Readers who enjoy books like David Peter's Giants of Land , Sea , and Air , Past and Present (Knopf, 1986) will relish these similar volumes. They're sure to leave bright afterimages of the amazing range of animals that have been, or are, among the Earth's population. --Cathryn A. Camper, Minneapolis Public Library
