Review:
When her best friend dies, Jenny Randal vows to find a home for Elise, the young daughter she left behind. She accompanies Elise to a lighthouse on the Oregon coast where Elise's uncle lives. It doesn't take long for Jenny to realize that Elise's uncle isn't anxious to have a little girl around-- especially one he's never met. But Elise needs a home and Jenny intends to make sure she has one. Christopher Logan has been living in seclusion at Gull's Point since his sailing days ended. His love of the ocean is the only love he wants. He doesn't want to be responsible for a child and doesn't think he's capable of loving anyone. He's not sure what to make of Jenny, she's bold and straightforward and seems determined to turn his peaceful, quiet life upside down. Christopher tells her he can't possibly take care of a little girl, but every time he looks at Elise, Jenny can see how much he loves her, whether he admits it or not. Stuck at the lighthouse for a month until the next boat arrives, Jenny does her best to bring uncle and niece together. Elise is a delightful little girl with her own plans-- to bring Jenny and Christopher together! As Jenny forces Christopher to face his painful past and his relationship with his father, she realizes she cares for him more than she should. Christopher thinks he can never offer Jenny the kind of life she deserves, but he begins to care about her. He offers as much of himself as he can for the brief time they are together, but knows it's not enough. It is only once Christopher's father sends for him that Christopher is able to come to terms with his past. With his past resolved, Christopher is ready to face the future-- one that could include Jenny.A sweet story, romantic setting and memorable characters-- this book is a treat! Old-fashioned romance at its very best! Heart's Song is as refreshing as an ocean breeze! Deborah Wood has a knack for setting the mood and creating a story to touch our hearts!Kristina Wright -- Copyright © 1994-97 Literary Times, Inc. All rights reserved -- From Literary Times
