About the Author:
Warren Faidley, the "Cyclone Cowboy", has experienced more extreme weather events than anyone, including baseball-sized hail, flash floods, lightning strikes, an F5 tornado, and the interior of a category 5 hurricane. Warren makes his living year round as a professional storm-chaser. He works with the Discovery and Weather channels, and was a primary consultant on the film Twister. He lives in Arizona.
From School Library Journal:
Grade 4 Up-- Anyone needing a clear exposition of lightning, how it is produced, the different types, and its dangers will find it explained here in cogent detail. Diagrams supplement the well-written narrative in describing scientific concepts. Exceptionally fine, full-color photographs--each a work of art--perfectly illustrate the text, powerfully and spectacularly showing the majesty and might of this phenomenon. Written material and pictures can stand independently, but together they create a masterpiece. Storms (Morrow, 1989) by Simon covers a broader topic and does not treat lightning in as much detail. --Meryl Silverstein, American Museum of Natural History, New York City
