From School Library Journal:
Grade 2-3-Three titles to help students and their parents better understand the terms and concepts studied today in reading, writing, and arithmetic. The books give concrete examples of topics such as patterns, regrouping, telling time, weight and measurement, problem-solving (for math); picture and context clues, graphic organizers, inferences and conclusions, sequence, and purpose (for reading); and characters, reviews, pronouns, compounds, subjects and predicates, and purpose (for writing). Each two-page spread gives a basic and expanded definition, samples, relevant vocabulary, and occasionally ideas for assignments. Many of the examples in the reading and writing volumes are taken from popular trade books. The titles are attractive and have full-color photographs, cartoon drawings, and illustrations from the original books. The vocabulary is on the appropriate level for the intended audience, but the books encourage parents and children to work together. Accessible and helpful.
