Nominated for a Shamus Award and a Barry Award, this is the story of cowgirl Trade Ellis—part Apache, part rancher, and all private eye.

Unfortunately, there's not much call for investigators on horseback. But as her twenty-fifth high-school reunion approaches, someone starts thinning the ranks of the old cheerleading squad. Trade has enough suspects to fill a yearbook: the fading beauty, the rich girl, the loser, the nerd. And someone wants her to join the cheerleading squad—in the morgue.

“The action moves briskly and is boosted by the motley cast of characters and [Sinclair] Browning’s inspired descriptions of the Southwest landscape up to the very end.”—Publishers Weekly

About the Author:
Sinclair Browning spent her childhood on her belly in dry arroyos hunting sand rubies, converting her propane tank into a stagecoach and exploring the Sonoran desert on her horse. Summers were spent on the family ranch in southern Arizona.

One of five nominees (the only writer) for the Arizona Arts Award in 2000, Browning's mysteries have been nominated for Shamus and Barry Awards. Publishers Weekly compared her America's Best to the "heroic war fiction of John Toland and Leon Uris." A former writing instructor she has also been a judge for the Edgar, the Shamus and the St. Martin's First awards.

Her work covers a broad spectrum: mysteries, thrillers, historical fiction and a a metaphysical novel. Her nonfiction includes spiritual books on afterlife gifts, signs we receive from people we have lost who assure us that their spirits are indeed alive and well.

From Publishers Weekly:
News of the gruesome murders of former Javelina High School Song Dog cheerleaders hits home with private investigator Trade Ellis in this debut mystery. One of the few remaining members of the squad, Ellis has been content working her immense Arizona ranch, Vaca Grande, and taking on the occasional insurance fraud or cheating-spouse case. But two aging classmates, worried for their lives, convince her to take on her first murder case while there are still some Song Dogs left. The upcoming 25-year reunion provides Ellis with the perfect opportunity, but little time, to interview her lengthy, diverse list of suspects, many of whom don't take kindly to her prying. Employing the help of some valuable connections, the sleuth finds more plausible motives than she knows what to do with, and uncovering lies and secrets soon proves dangerous. The action moves briskly and is boosted by the motley cast of characters and Browning's inspired descriptions of the Southwest landscape up to the very end, when the killer's true identity is revealed.
