From School Library Journal:
Grade 5-8 Gross relates the details of Brandeis' life, showing early influences on his later commitment to Judaism and the creation of a Jewish state. That he was a brilliant attorney, a powerful political force, and a liberal justice with a strong conviction that the constitution and laws are to serve the good of the people is clearly shown. Through the details of his involvement with Zionism, Gross gives a good picture of the history of the movement. He includes accolades that people heaped upon Brandeis, yet he also discloses Brandeis' secret financial arrangement with Felix Frankfurter to pursue his liberal goals. Each chapter begins with a quote from Brandeis, which is a nice touch. A few black-and-white photographs are scattered throughout. While the writing is often marred by oversimplification, this book will meet curriculum needs. Micki S. Nevett, Temple Beth Emeth Library, Albany, N.Y.
