Gr 2-4--Two plays for primary-grade actors. A brief recap of the tale is followed by a list of parts; directions for reading the play, making simple costumes and props, and creating stage sets and sound effects; and then the script itself. Each character's part is indicated with a graphic icon and is color-coded to make reading from the script easier. Color photographs show children dressed in the costumes and using the suggested props and movements. The plots of these classic tales have been simplified for young players and feature happy endings. In Little Red Riding Hood, the killing of the wolf occurs offstage. In Puss-in-Boots, the cat easily tricks the king into letting his daughter marry Puss's master. Few plays of this simplicity are available for this audience, and the inclusion of directions and costuming, as well as clear photographs, make these useful additions to most collections.
