ISBN 0-394-72983-8. ea vol: Knopf. 1986. 288p. illus., some color. index. pap. $9.95. ref/pets Colorful, inviting, and hard to put down, these are among the most informative, attractive cat and dog books every published. Packed with encyclopedic amounts of information in an enticing format and drawn together by original, high-quality color photography and drawings, these gems will be adored by all ages. In both, Taylor discusses anatomy, feeding, grooming, showing, and training. He also offers sound advice on health care, emergency first aid, and pet selection. There are two drawbacks to these otherwise outstanding books. Information on specific breeds is overly abbreviated, opinionated, and sometimes incorrect. Secondly, the books are liable to be so popular that they will almost certainly need rebinding, which will be difficult with such narrow margins. Too bad they aren't available in hardback. Well written, abundantly and beautifully illustrated, and a great buy, both are highly recommended for school and public libraries. Larger libraries will want multiple copies. Another release in the series is Dick Mills's You & Your Aquarium .Ed . Carolyn I. Alexander, USACDEC Technical Information Ctr., Ft. Ord., Cal.
