If literary critics were asked to name the most characteristic Giraudoux play, it is highly possible that the choice would be "Intermezzo." This comedy-fantasy is the first theatrical effort that the dramatist developed from his own inspiration. As a result, it is perhaps the most typical in its blend of observation and fantasy, the real and the ideal.
