Discovering Mount St. Helens: A Guide to Mount St. Helens National Volcanic Monument - Softcover

In 1982 Congress established a new national monument of 110,000 acres, set aside to preserve this area which literally blasted its way to the attention of the world. The first half of the volume outlines the cataclysm itself, the rapid recovery of the flora and fauna, the nature of vulcanism, and the ancient and modern history of the region. The real strength of the book is in the second half, a long chapter called ``Recreational Opportunites,'' which details the areas, trails, lakes, caves, campgrounds, etc., in the Monument.
