Grade 3-5-Discover Dinosaurs uses hands-on activities to teach readers how scientists make deductions about animals that have been dead for millions of years. Tracks in the snow serve as a model for dinosaur prints, a paper and straw glider illustrates how a pterosaur flew, and sugar cubes show how a dinosaur's weight increases with its size. These experiments are simple enough for children to do at home, but teachers may also find this manual useful for classroom demonstrations. An "activities and experiments" and a general index are included, and answers to quizzes are appended. This is an appealing book, illustrated with colorful cartoons, but Niles, Gregory, and Douglas Eldredge's The Fossil Factory (Addison-Wesley, 1989) and Jerry Booth's The Big Beast Book (Little, 1988) cover much of the same information.
