Science and Technology (Oxford Children's Reference) - Hardcover

Grade 3-6-Despite the book's title, the subjects covered here are limited to the physical sciences and traditional engineering (e.g., bridges and trains but nothing on biotechnology or medical technology). In an encyclopedic arrangement, individual articles appear grouped under the umbrella categories: science & materials, space, energy, and transport and information technologies. Each topic is explained in one to two pages of simple, math-free text accompanied by attractive full-color diagrams, drawings, and photographs. Interesting historical and technical "factoids" are scattered around the margins. Because this volume originated in the United Kingdom, a few terms may be unfamiliar to U.S. children. On the other hand, the choice of subjects and examples reflect a more international flavor than comparable U.S. texts. There is neither a bibliography nor a glossary, limiting the book's usefulness as a launching pad for more detailed research. However, the fine illustrations and well-written text make Science and Technology an excellent resource.
