From School Library Journal:
Kindergarten-Grade 3 Tom and Lucy have many things to do and count before going to a tea party in honor of Grandma's 60th birthday. All except the smallest preschoolers will understand this cozy English family's busy Saturday. Details that are not American (the toast rack, for example) are easily grasped in context. Hughes' story is a delightful narrative when read straight through. It's equally pleasing to read it in fits and starts, lingering with a child to count objects on a page. The relationship between words and pictures varies considerably from page to page. This gives a feeling of a child's dayroutine mixed with adventure and surprise. Not the sort of counting book one usually sees, and an enjoyable, family-centered treat. Anna Biagioni Hart, Sherwood Public Library, Alexandria, Va.
